BMW Team RLL aiming for back to back victory at Laguna Seca

It has been a roller coaster ride for the team so far. The debut of two new BMW M6 GTLM racing cars this season has experienced many ups and downs. These kinds of hurdles are very common for a new racing car. Despite all the challenges of adjusting, the team’s performance so far is still very promising.

Bill Auberlen (US) and Dirk Werner (DE) have successfully driven the number 25 BMW M6 GTLM car to a second place tie in the GTLM team and driver points standings. This is based on a fifth place finish at Daytona (US), a second place finish at Sebring (US) and a fifth place finish at Long Beach. At Sebring and Long Beach, Auberlen secured a pole position. He was also the fastest race lap at Sebring. The driving duo finished second to their teammates at Laguna Seca last year.

In terms of bad luck, John Edwards (US), Lucas Luhr (DE) and the number 100 BMW M6 GTLM seem to have the most of it. They finished sixth place at Sebring and wasn’t able to recover due to difficult crashes in both Daytona and Long Beach. Last year, the pair actually won the Laguna Seca race. It was a nice mirror to the 1975 victory almost 40 years before that; a great tribute to when Hans-Joachim Stuck (DE) won the race in a 3.0 CSL in BMW Motorsport’s first year of competing in the US.

Bobby Rahal, Team Principal of BMW Team RLL, still has very high hopes for Laguna Seca. They are setting their eyes on putting a good weekend together. BMW drivers Auberlen, Werner, Edwards, and Luhr also feel more comfortable now in the BMW M6 GTLM. They are positive that they can produce the best possible result.
