In their latest video, R44 Performance returns to showcase the impressive results achieved through tuning their 2023 BMW G87 M2. Opting for a Stage 1 remap, they aimed to demonstrate the significant performance gains achievable with minimal hardware upgrades. Notably, the car was equipped with supporting modifications, including R44 200-cell downpipes, an Eventuri intake (Matte), and an OPF-back exhaust from Grail.
Despite the additional modifications, R44 Performance highlights that the stock airbox on the G8X S58 vehicles is remarkably efficient, negating the need for an aftermarket intake system to achieve substantial power gains.
When tested in stock condition, the G87 M2 delivered 478 bhp and 534 Nm (394 lb-ft) of torque at the crank, slightly below BMW’s claimed OEM power output. However, after undergoing the Stage 1 tune, the car surged to an impressive 674 bhp and 775 Nm (571 lb-ft) of torque, representing a remarkable increase of 200 horsepower and 240 Nm.
R44 Performance emphasizes the collaborative effort involved in tuning the S58 engine, with the G87’s ECU being unlocked by Femto and the mapping process executed by Tom Wrigley Performance alongside tuner Mike Ball. This meticulous approach, involving multiple dyno and road tests, ensures optimal performance and reliability for all customer vehicles seeking tuning solutions for their S58-powered BMWs.
