[Video] G80 BMW M3 Competition xDrive wows Joe Achilles

As the owner of a G80 BMW M3 Competition, YouTuber Joe Achilles finds himself in a fascinating situation when it comes to testing cars. Since he regularly drives and lives with a rear-wheel drive car, his opinion of the new M3 Competition xDrive is distinctive. Also, he’s an old-school fan who prefers rear-wheel drive and manual transmissions. So if the M3 with all-wheel drive and an automatic can wow him, then it must be really outstanding.

Unexpectedly, Achilles finds that his BMW M3 Competition and the M3 Competition xDrive are very similar inside and out. AWD isn’t even marked on the xDrive vehicle’s badges. Until you go into the iDrive interface, you have no idea what drivetrain your car has.

See how excited Achilles is with the M3 Competition xDrive in the video below. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line engine rated at 503 hp and 479 lb-ft, mated to an eight-speed auto. It’s true that the xDrive model is faster on the track and in the real world. Achilles manages to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, which is insane, that faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia. What’s more, this M3’s performance makes it suitable for winter driving.

After all, it’s all about traction. Thanks to its all-wheel drive, the M3 Competition xDrive can really pack a punch. Anyone who has ever driven a rear-wheel drive car knows that it can bite. But not with the xDrive car, whose tenacious grip puts the car right for you. It’s impressive because it never feels forced or intrusive. Achilles says it’s really good. It may be easy to reject the M3 xDrive since it deviates from the M Division’s rear-wheel drive tradition, but it’s hard to dismiss it after driving it. Especially when it is like a rear-wheel drive car, only faster and more confident.
