[VIDEO] G87 BMW M2 Battles Porsche 718 Cayman: What’s Best?

Motor Trend just unveiled a thrilling showdown: the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 versus the latest G87 BMW M2. Surprisingly, despite their significant price gap, enthusiasts often pit these two sports cars against each other since the M2’s debut. The Cayman GTS 4.0 boasts a starting price of $95,200, in contrast to the more accessible $62,200 tag of the G87 M2. With BMW’s signature blend of luxury and performance, this face-off is not to be missed

The BMW M2 roars to life with its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, delivering 453 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between a snappy six-speed manual transmission or a swift eight-speed automatic gearbox. Opt for the manual; you’ll hit 62 mph in 4.3 seconds, but the automatic shaves that down to 4.1 seconds. Plus, with the M Driver’s Package, you’re not capped at 155 mph – push it up to 174 mph and feel the ultimate power of BMW’s engineering.

The Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0, powered by a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, boasts 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. Choose between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The automatic hits 62 mph in 4.0 seconds; the manual 4.5 seconds. Initially, the top speed caps at 155 mph. However, with the Sport Chrono Package, it surges to 182 mph.

The Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0 accelerates ahead thanks to its lighter frame and swift-shifting gearbox. Yet, the BMW M2 leads in power and torque. The Cayman is about 600 lbs lighter compared to the M2. Both cars impress with their performance, but their characters differ. The Cayman’s naturally aspirated engine sings at high rpms, while the M2’s turbocharged unit delivers a constant power surge.

Motor Trend dives deeper, taking both cars to carve through canyon roads. So, which is the better buy?
