BMW’s first M bike is hard to beat, but this M4 isn’t your average G82. It’s the even more powerful Competition version with xDrive. UK tuning company Evolve Automotive took it to the next level with a custom build. They painted it in a striking Individual Mint Green and added numerous aftermarket upgrades.
The M4 received substantial upgrades, including hybrid turbochargers, forged internals, and other S58 engine modifications, totalling £35,000 (approximately $45,000) in enhancements. The 3.0-litre inline-six now boasts an astonishing 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 Newton meters (738 pound-feet) of torque. In comparison, although much lighter, the formidable M 1000 RR motorcycle relies on its “mere” 212 horsepower and 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque, illustrating the significant power gap.
In the initial showdown, the bike emerged victorious despite the car jumping the start. In the subsequent race to the quarter-mile mark, the M4 secured a win due to the driver manually shifting gears. However, it’s evident that the car exhibited overeager acceleration again, launching prematurely.
Another race ensued after the tuned car experienced a technical issue, which was promptly resolved. In this straight-line acceleration test, the BMW M4 driver again claimed victory despite another jump start. Notably, the car’s problem was due to an incorrect engine map rather than a structural issue. The oversight occurred because the team failed to switch the engine map from pump gas to E85 despite ethanol in the fuel tank.
Despite the reduced importance of the M4’s xDrive in this race, the car still emerged victorious in the 30 mph (48 km/h) drag race. However, it appeared that the bike encountered an issue, possibly with the exhaust manifold. Adding to its troubles, the M 1000 RR also failed the brake test.
We didn’t anticipate the bike’s failure, but the M4 had substantial modifications. The outcome might have been significantly different if the M 1000 RR had competed against a stock M4 Competition, especially one without all-wheel drive.
