The BMW M4 GT3 EVO owned Misano last weekend. Under a punishing Adriatic sun, Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde won both GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup races in the number 32 Team WRT car. Two starts, two wins. The Belgian and South African pairing now sit top of the Sprint Cup standings.
Race one set the tone. Weerts rocketed off the line from fourth and surged into the lead as rivals tangled behind him. He never looked back. A tidy handover kept the number 32 out front, and van der Linde reeled off the laps to seal the result. Composed, rapid and firmly in command.
Sunday asked more of them. Van der Linde lined up second and held station in the early running. The decisive blow landed in the pit lane. A lightning tyre change and driver swap vaulted the crew into the lead, and Weerts drove home unchallenged. It was his 20th Sprint Cup win, making him the most successful driver in the series’ history.
The sister number 46 gave the home crowd plenty to cheer. Valentino Rossi bagged his first GT World Challenge pole on Saturday, sharing the cockpit with Max Hesse. A late tyre issue and relentless pressure from Lucas Auer’s Mercedes cost them a rostrum, so sixth and fourth were the rewards. Team WRT still banked heavy points across the Silver Cup, too, with the number 30 taking a win and a third.
Weerts and van der Linde leave Misano as championship leaders and firm favourites. Magny-Cours is next on the calendar. On this form, the BMW M4 GT3 EVO looks like the car to beat.
