The “Green Hell” prepares for another masterclass in German engineering as Munich’s finest deploy the BMW M4 GT3 EVO to conquer the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this May. Entering the top SP9 category, BMW M Motorsport aims to cement its unparalleled legacy on the Nordschleife by chasing a record-breaking 22nd overall victory. Leading the charge is the number one machine from ROWE Racing, piloted by a formidable roster of defending champions: Kelvin van der Linde, Raffaele Marciello, and Augusto Farfus, alongside Jordan Pepper. It is a calculated assembly of pure racing pedigree, built to tame the treacherous undulations of the Eifel mountains.
This tactical offensive is reinforced by a secondary ROWE Racing entry, ensuring the factory-backed assault leaves nothing to chance. Running on the same high-performance Michelin rubber as its sister car, the number 99 machine unites the rapid pace of Dan Harper, Max Hesse, Sheldon van der Linde, and Dries Vanthoor. For Harper and Hesse, the endurance marathon marks a poignant return to the tarmac where they honed their racecraft within the brand’s Junior Team. Hesse already holds a historic accolade here, having claimed pole position at just 22 years old last year, proving that youth and precision can extract maximum performance from the highly tuned chassis.
Diversifying the strategy across varying track conditions, BMW M Motorsport has also partnered with Schubert Motorsport for a third factory-supported contender. The number 77 car shifts the mechanical focus by running on Yokohama tyres and sporting a bespoke livery tailored for the Japanese manufacturer. Behind the wheel sits an equally potent quartet consisting of Charles Weerts, Marco Wittmann, Philipp Eng, and Robin Frijns. This dual-tyre approach ensures that engineers can gather critical data on mechanical grip and degradation rates, adapting their race pace to the notoriously unpredictable weather systems that frequently wash over the circuit.
Preparation for this ultimate test of automotive endurance is already firing on all cylinders. The factory-backed outfits are using the preliminary Nürburgring Endurance Series and the rigorous 24h Qualifiers to dial in their damper settings and fine-tune aerodynamic balance. Every lap logged during these preliminary rounds serves to iron out the mechanical variables before the engines are subjected to 24 hours of sustained, high-revving punishment. With a dozen elite works drivers distributed across three finely balanced machines, the manufacturer has laid an uncompromising foundation for retaining its crown.
