Barely a month on sale. Already a winner. The BMW iX3 has stormed into American showrooms and left established electric rivals trailing in its wake. Deliveries only began in September, right at the tail end of the third quarter. Even so, Cox Automotive data shows BMW shifted 1,101 examples in that brief window, a remarkable opening salvo for an all-new nameplate.

Some big names felt the impact. The Porsche Macan Electric came closest, yet still fell short with 1,023 sales. Audi’s Q6 e-tron managed 810, while the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric limped home with just 341. Genesis and Volvo trailed further back with their electric GV70 and EX60. Not one of these more established rivals could match the newcomer over the quarter.
The iX3 even outpaced its own stablemates. It comfortably beat the i5 saloon and the flagship i7, plus the outgoing iX. Only the i4 Gran Coupé sold more among BMW’s electric line-up. Keep this momentum going and the iX3 could soon overtake the Lexus RZ too. That is a bold statement from a car that has hardly turned a wheel in America.

So why the instant appeal? The US range features a single 50 xDrive version with 463hp and a claimed range of up to 434 miles. Some tests have even stretched a charge beyond 600 miles. Neue Klasse styling brings a slimmer grille and cleaner surfaces, while the Panoramic iDrive dominates a plush, tech-rich cabin. It also scooped the 2026 World Car of the Year title.
There is more firepower on the way. The iX3 M60 arrives next year with 603hp from twin motors and a 0 to 62mph sprint of 3.9 seconds. It shares the same 800-volt system, which allows rapid charging at up to 400kW. Overseas, the iX3 has already passed 100,000 orders, and it marks the start of a new era for BMW. America, it seems, has already signed up.
