[Video] The BMW M5 LCI on the track

The BMW M5 also got a mild makeover alongside the refreshed BMW 5 Series to keep it relevant for the next few years. It’s not that the M5 isn’t already a major seller, but it’s good to keep the whole line-up looking the same for obvious reasons. However, as is generally the case for BMW M vehicles, not much has changed on the technical side. Under the hood, we still have the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, with the same 625 PS.

The engineers gave the BMW M5 a little more TLC, however, and the sedan now has the same dampers as its larger sibling, the M8. The biggest concern, therefore, is whether you can feel these fresh dampers at work. Compared to the ultra-plush feeling provided by an ‘ordinary’ 5 Series, the BMW M5 in Competition clothes already has a fairly stiff suspension.

There is no clear difference, according to Joe Achilles, between the pre-facelift model and the BMW M5 LCI in terms of riding comfort, even though the new model has new dampers. At least that is the case on public roads, and UK roads are not exactly forgiving, according to him. Then again, the moment you push on the gas pedal, you seem to forget about the rough ride. When in full-attack mode, you will potentially forget a lot of stuff, as your thoughts simply vanish.

Joe has also done a couple of tests in the new car and discovered that BMW is pretty conservative about the car making 0-62 mph in 3.3 seconds. His tests revealed it could do it on a greasy surface and with Pirelli tires on, not Michelin, in 2.99 seconds. He then continued to take the car to the track, and in the video above, I’ll let him tell you about it.
