BMW Shakes Up Design Leadership for a Bold New Era

BMW is making some big changes to its design leadership starting October 1st, signalling a fresh direction for the brand’s future. Domagoj Dukec, the head of design at BMW since 2019, will take his talents to Rolls-Royce. While Adrian van Hooydonk remains in charge, BMW’s design responsibilities will now be split between two individuals for different vehicle classes.

Maximilian Missoni, formerly of Polestar, will lead the design for BMW’s luxury and upper mid-size models, including the Alpina line. Meanwhile, Oliver Heilmer, who has been with Mini since 2017, will take on the compact and mid-size BMW models and the M cars. Holger Hampf, previously in charge of Designworks, BMW’s innovation hub, will fill Heilmer’s role at Mini.

This reshuffling doesn’t stop there. BMW has appointed Claudia Braun to oversee Color and Material Design across BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce. Meanwhile, Anders Warming, previously Rolls-Royce’s head of design, will now lead Designworks and tackle advanced design projects.

Despite polarizing opinions on BMW’s recent designs, the brand’s sales are stronger than ever. This shift in leadership might hint at the direction of future models, but for now, BMW’s commercial success shows no signs of slowing down.
