The BMW XM has never needed help drawing a crowd. M Division’s first standalone SUV arrived with a face that argued with itself and a stance that dared anyone to look away. Larte Design has decided that was not enough. The Russian-founded tuner, fresh from coating a Cadillac Escalade in the same shade, has now aimed its Olive Green palette at Munich’s heaviest hitter. The result is a machine that no longer splits opinion so much as flattens it.
Start at the nose. Larte has bolted on a fresh splitter, new intake shrouds, and a set of accents wrapped around those already enormous kidney grilles. None of it is ordinary carbon weave. Every panel has been tinted green, so it blends into the paintwork rather than contrasting with it. The biggest change sits above, where the standard bonnet has been binned in favour of a green carbon item with louvres cut into each side. It is the sort of detail you would expect on a homologation special, not a two-and-a-half-tonne luxury SUV.
The transformation carries on down the flanks. Rocker panels, fender flares, and mirror caps all switch to the same tinted weave, while the wheels have been colour-matched and given green carbon accents of their own. It is a relentlessly consistent look, and consistency is what saves it from feeling random. Every surface pulls in the same direction, even if that direction is straight into the nearest lamppost of taste.
Round the back, restraint disappears entirely. A green carbon wing sprouts from the roof, backed up by a small lip spoiler tucked beneath the rear glass. Underneath sits a bespoke diffuser, and poking through it are tailpipes finished, inevitably, in green carbon. Larte has left nothing untouched. Whether the XM’s already heavyweight rear needed a double dose of aerodynamic furniture is a question the tuner clearly never asked itself.
For owners who like the engineering but not the palette, Larte will supply the same kit in conventional carbon fibre or painted to match whatever colour the car left the factory wearing. That is probably the sensible route. Then again, nobody buys an XM to be sensible, and this build knows exactly what it is. It is loud, deliberate, and completely unbothered by what you think of it.
