Rain, red flags and a loose door. None of it could stop Team WRT. Its BMW M4 GT3 EVO squad battled through a chaotic weekend at Barcelona to snatch the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup teams’ title. The finale ran from 2 to 4 October and threw everything it had at the grid. WRT simply refused to blink.

Saturday was carnage. Torrential rain lashed the circuit, incidents piled up, and the red flags flew at half distance. Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts kept their #32 M4 pointing the right way and clawed up to tenth, with teammates Jordan Pepper and Amaury Cordeel right on their tail in eleventh. Yet the star of the deluge wore KPX Motorsport colours, as David Pittard and Jop Rappange stormed from the very back of the grid to eighth.
Sunday brought dry tarmac, and the M4s bared their teeth. The #32 scythed through 15 places in the opening stint alone and took the flag in sixth, while the #31 charged home in eighth. Not everyone had it so easy. Valentino Rossi and Max Hesse watched their race unravel when the driver’s door worked loose, and an unplanned pit stop dumped the #46 down to 38th.

It didn’t matter, because the points were already banked. “Everything just came together, and we had a little bit of luck on our side,” said van der Linde. Team principal Vincent Vosse called the Sprint Cup a championship “particularly close to our hearts”. The trophy caps a stellar year for the Belgian outfit, which has already swept Silver Cup honours across the Sprint, Endurance and combined standings. It pocketed the Pitstop Challenge award too.
No time to savour it, though. One round remains, and the endurance finale at Portimão roars into life on 17 October. WRT will arrive with momentum, confidence and an M4 that has proved its pace on both wet and dry tarmac. On this form, every rival on the grid knows exactly which car to fear.
