The BMW X3 M50 xDrive has quietly become a much angrier machine. BMW’s autumn 2026 update round hands it 443 hp, a jump of 45 hp over the version it replaces, with production starting in December. It is the headline mechanical change in a busy set of revisions that touches everything from the 2 Series Active Tourer to the M5’s wheel design.

The X3 also picks up an interior lift, with lighting in the centre console cubby, an illuminated grab handle, a new glove box opener and fresh stitching on the instrument panel. Most versions gain a stainless steel loading sill insert. Elsewhere, a new Black Package arrives for the M Performance versions of the 2 Series Coupé, 4 Series Coupé and 4 Series Convertible. It is tied to the M Sport package Pro and brings carbon interior trim, a carbon-detailed M leather steering wheel, black badging and, on the 4 Series models, 19-inch Double-spoke 995 M wheels in Jet Black with mixed tyres.
Two big model families move into production. The 7 Series gains the 740d xDrive with 313 hp, the 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid with 489 hp and the M760e xDrive with 612 hp, all from November. The new X5 follows in December with the 50e xDrive at 489 hp, the M60e xDrive at 612 hp and the fully electric iX5 60 xDrive, which claims 578 hp and up to 850 kilometres of range. An iX3 40 xDrive with 374 hp joins in February 2027.

The 7 Series and i7 also gain eight BMW Individual two-tone finishes across every engine variant, plus a digital interior mirror and pre-heating. On the digital side, Amazon Prime Video lands in cars running BMW Operating System 9 or X, picking up where the viewer left off at home. BMW Maps moves to a combined 3D view from October, blending navigation, surroundings and assistance data using Mapbox mapping and Google search results. A new Drive Challenge feature scores acceleration, steering and braking in real time.
The neatest trick is reserved for the M5. BMW M Performance Parts has introduced light alloy wheels made by high-pressure casting, an industry first. Each wheel is cast from the outside in within 0.05 seconds, monitored by 80 sensors and an AI, with no heat treatment needed afterwards. The process allows up to 70 bladed spokes and cuts weight by as much as 20 per cent per wheel. The 20-inch and 21-inch 1075 M style sets come in Gold Bronze and Jet Black.
