BMW XM Label Soundmachine Rolls Out as Mobile DJ Stage

The BMW XM Label has been reborn as something the motoring world has never quite seen before. Apprentices at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing have taken the brand’s most muscular SUV and transformed it into the BMW XM Soundmachine, a fully working mobile event venue built on four wheels. The donor car retains its M HYBRID drivetrain, pumping out a hefty 550 kW (748 hp) through its V8 engine and M TwinPower Turbo setup, giving the rolling stage genuine performance car credentials beneath all the kit bolted on top.

The roof of the XM Label has been heavily reworked to make room for a proper DJ booth, complete with a six square metre double-sided LED screen suspended from the structure. Four fog machines are tucked neatly into the wheel arches, while underbody illumination and a mix of fixed and moving stage lights give the bodywork a real visual punch. The audio rig pairs dBTechnologies VIO C12 active speakers and VIO S118R subwoofers with a Pioneer DJM V10 mixer and twin CDJ 3000X players, all powered by the car’s hybrid system for up to a full hour without plugging into mains electricity.

A five-strong apprentice team kicked off the build in July 2025 without a finished blueprint, working through the design as they went. Mechatronics specialists, painters, bodywork technicians, machining experts and electronics engineers all pooled their skills, with project notes admitting the planning phase swallowed at least fourteen sleepless nights. The finished superstructure weighs roughly 1,400 kg on its own, bringing the kerb weight of the whole machine to around 2,800 kg, yet it remains fully drivable at speeds of up to 15 km/h thanks to TÜV approval.

Engineering the load-bearing platform proved the trickiest part of the project. The team settled on a welded support frame using Bosch profiles built into the body, with custom crossmembers reinforcing the chassis and bespoke brackets holding every speaker, light and fog unit in place. A double floor inside the cabin frees up space for the technical hardware, while the standing platform on top gives DJs a proper performing surface. Steffi Armbruster, Head of Brand Experience and Cooperations at BMW, said the XM Label belongs on stage given its presence and power, and praised the apprentices for taking the project from rough sketch to finished show car.

DJ legend Carl Cox, himself an XM owner, signed off on the build in April 2026 and is closely tied to the GEN M concept behind it. The Soundmachine made its debut at the Electric Mountain Festival in Sölden and now heads out on a busy 2026 tour, appearing at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on 15 May, the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 13 June and MotoGP at Spielberg on 19 September. It is a proper one-off, blending serious horsepower with a club-grade rig in a way only a factory apprentice project could pull off.
