BMW iX4 Charges Back as a 603hp Electric Coupe SUV Contender

The X4 is back, and it has gone fully electric. BMW’s new iX4 joins the iX3 and i3 as the third member of the Neue Klasse family. Its roofline sweeps lower and sleeker than its upright crossover siblings, giving it a far more athletic stance. Two motors and all-wheel drive come as standard. And then comes the M60.

Every iX4 rolls out in M Sport trim, perched on 21-inch wheels. A full-length panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with light. That slippery shape slices through the air with a drag coefficient of just 0.23. Fancy a dose of race-car flair? Optional yellow lighting nods directly to BMW’s motorsport machines, adding real attitude after dark.

The iX4 50 xDrive opens the range with 463hp and 644Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 60mph in an estimated 4.7 seconds and runs on to 130mph. The iX4 M60 xDrive cranks that up to 603hp and a muscular 875Nm. Now the sprint drops to 3.7 seconds and the top speed climbs to 149mph. Adaptive M suspension and an electronically controlled M Sport differential keep everything in check.

Range is the other big story. A 112.2kWh usable battery gives the 50 xDrive an estimated 428 miles, though that figure remains preliminary. Its 800-volt architecture swallows DC charging at up to 400kW. In ideal conditions, ten minutes on the plug adds up to 184 miles, while a 10 to 80 per cent top-up takes just 21 minutes. Bidirectional charging even lets the battery supply power beyond the car itself.

Inside, Panoramic iDrive beams information across the base of the windscreen, backed by a 17.9-inch touchscreen. A 3D head-up display is optional, and the voice assistant now taps into Amazon Alexa+ technology. BMW claims its clever Heart of Joy controller juggles powertrain and chassis functions ten times faster than before. Production fires up in Debrecen, Hungary, with the 50 xDrive arriving in March 2027 and the M60 later that year. The coupe SUV just found its spark again.
