BMW and Saab Rumored Agreement on Engine-Purchasing Deal

The rumors of BMW and Saab entering a purchasing deal already broke out last June. This BMW engine was said to be for new small car that Saab will be building. Today, Bloomberg published a speculation that the deal has been made between BMW and Saab. BMW has agreed to Saab using BMW engines for the small Saab 9-3 model to be launched in 2012.

On September 29, 2010, BMW and Saab are rumored to announce their final deal to the public. Just in time for the Paris Motor Show the following day.

There were also reports stating that BMW is planning to supply a diesel engine for Saab’s 9-4x midsize crossover to be launched in 2011. According to Bloomberg, the BMW Mini Countryman platform is also rumored to be part of the deal, together with a new 222 hp engine that BMW is developing.

It is known to the public that BMW Chief Executive Officer Norbert Reithofer has been looking for purchasing deals and is trying to sell BMW components to other manufacturers so that their profit will increase. BMW has already entered in an agreement in March 2010 to supply around 240,000 six- cylinder diesel engines, cooling systems, and transmissions to Carbon Motors Corp. who develops police cars for U.S. Wiessmann is also using BMW engines.
