BMW iX3 Demand Overtakes X3 As Orders Flood In Germany Early

The BMW iX3 is already setting the pace. Within weeks of its unveiling, the all-electric SUV has pulled stronger order books in Germany than the combustion-engined X3, indicating that BMW’s next-gen family EV has hit the sweet spot for range, performance and everyday usability.

Built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture, the iX3 debuts new motors, power electronics and battery tech designed for efficiency and repeatable performance. The first variant shown, the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive, delivers a quoted 463 bhp and 475 lb ft, launching from 0–62 mph in 4.9 seconds. Its 108 kWh pack is the headline act: a WLTP figure of up to 500 miles places the iX3 among Europe’s longest-legged electric cars, notable for a vehicle with the footprint and practicality of a mid-size SUV.

Production starts at BMW’s new Debrecen plant in Hungary, a factory purpose-built for Neue Klasse models with capacity planned for six-figure volumes. Early European deliveries are slated for spring 2026, with the United States following in the summer. BMW is also preparing assembly in Mexico, giving the brand flexibility on supply routes as demand builds.

First impressions from up close underline how far the package has moved on. The exterior trades clutter for clean surfacing and a confident stance, while inside, you sit behind a sweeping panoramic display set low beneath the windscreen, opening up the view forward and simplifying the driver’s environment. Materials and fit feel more substantial than recent BMW cabins, with tight panel gaps and robust switchgear where it matters.

Out on mountain passes, late-stage prototypes have been spotted working hard, stability systems dialled back, and the chassis showing balanced responses under power. The steering feels keyed-in, and the torque distribution helps the iX3 rotate neatly off tighter bends—classic BMW traits translated into an electric format without diluting refinement.

BMW’s early order surge—reportedly in the thousands during the first six weeks—suggests the market has been waiting for an EV that combines genuine motorway range with the brand’s familiar dynamic character and family-friendly packaging. With multiple production hubs, a strong technology story and a cabin that looks and feels modern without gimmicks, the BMW iX3 arrives as a compelling standard-bearer for the marque’s electric era.
