Munich is revving up for a blockbuster week of tennis as the BMW Open by Bitpanda 2026 shifts into top gear. At a press conference held at BMW Welt, organisers pulled the covers off this year’s winner’s car: the all-electric BMW iX3 50 xDrive. As the first model born from BMW’s groundbreaking Neue Klasse platform, the iX3 delivers a bold new design language, a range of up to 805 kilometres and rapid charging at up to 400 kW. Already crowned 2026 World Car of the Year and 2026 World Electric Vehicle at the World Car Awards, this zero-emission Sports Activity Vehicle is a champion in its own right and the perfect reward for the tournament victor.
The road to claiming those keys will be fiercely competitive. Defending champion Alexander Zverev returns to MTTC Iphitos on a mission to secure his fourth BMW Open title, a feat that would make him the tournament’s outright record holder. Joining him in Munich are Ben Shelton, Alexander Bublik and four more top-20 players, including Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi, Jiri Lehecka and Francisco Cerúndolo. Tennis fans will also get their first live look at Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca and former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas, while the doubles draw features Grand Slam champions Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz as the top seeds.
Off the court, every ace struck during the tournament fuels the FUTURE ACES initiative, a programme launched by BMW and its partners to steer disadvantaged young people towards a brighter future through tennis. Each ace converts into a coaching lesson at MTTC Iphitos, giving children who would otherwise never pick up a racquet the chance to develop skills, confidence and long-term prospects. Last year’s tournament generated 361 coaching hours, enabling six youngsters to join regular training and club life. Those six will continue to be supported in 2026, and a fresh cohort of participants will join the programme after this year’s event.
Running alongside the main draw from 16 to 18 April is the Allianz Para Trophy, now upgraded to a 500-category wheelchair tennis event. This year’s edition introduces the Quad Division, headlined by world number one Niels Vink of the Netherlands, holder of the Career Golden Slam. The Open Division welcomes Grand Slam champion Gustavo Fernández of Argentina among eight world-class athletes, adding another powerful dimension to the week’s action.
With its strongest-ever field, a trailblazing all-electric winner’s car and a social programme that transforms aces into opportunity, the 2026 BMW Open by Bitpanda is turbocharged and ready to roll. Whether fans come for the forehand winners or the Neue Klasse on display, Munich is firmly on the map as a flagship destination on the ATP Tour.
