Photos – BMW 3.0 CSL Art Car at The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

BMW has a 35-year tradition of using cars as art canvasses. The Calder car was the first BMW art project ever made back in 1975. American artist Alexander Calder was commissioned to paint the BMW 3.0 CSL Poulain. This was driven in the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race that year. BMW has sponsored 16 BMW art works from several artists since then.

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will be displaying the Calder BMW Art Car from May 10-21, 2010 as a celebration of the NASCAR Hall of Fame opening. Photos can be seen below.

The Calder BMW Art Car will then be brought to Centre Pompidou in Paris where it will be displayed across the newest project: the 17th BMW Art Car designed by Jeff Koons and will be driven on June 12-13, 2010 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
