BMW was ranked second in this year’s BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands. The only brand ranked better is Toyota, which also holds the first place for the number of cars sold last year. Toyota isn’t a direct competitor, though, as they have been working together with BMW since 2013, developing hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The main results are unchanged from the last year, but there is a subtle difference in 2% value rising compared to 12 months ago. According to the new data, BMW’s sales value is now $2.8 billion. The first ranked Toyota is valued at $29.5 billion. The Japanese brand has been on the top place for 11 years.
The boost in sales value mostly came from the new 7 series and the rising popularity of BMW i Series. As the Global BrandZ Director Peter Walshe said, “BMW has tremendous brand experience about it and the actual drivability of its models remains incredible and attractive.â€
There are some changes on the rest of the list compared to the last year. Porsche is on the 9th place, getting to the list for the first time ever. Tesla overtook the 10th place from Lexus and proved once again that it should be taken seriously. Mercedes-Benz jumped the most with the value increase, reaching $22.7 billion and the 3rd place, while the 4th place is held by Honda.
