BMW not planning a four-cylinder 7 Series model

BMW’s rival automaker Mercedes Benz will be launching a four-cylinder version of their S-Class model to address the need to sustainable mobility. This eco-friendly S-Class sedan will be powered by a 2.2 liter four-cylinder diesel engine delivering 204 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The fuel consumption will be around 42 MPG. But even so, BMW has no plans to answering back to this rival by offering a four-cylinder variant in the 7 Series family.

BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer said: “I like selling 7-series cars with six- and eight- cylinders. What we need to offer with these cars in the future is electrification.”

BMW is selling a 730d model in Europe with an output of 245 horsepower and EU drive cycle at 34.6 MPG (U.S.) with CO2 emissions of 178 g/km. BMW has already invested 1.2 billion euros in research and development of their fuel-saving technology. Mercedes doubled their investment for sustainable development this year to 1 billion euros.
