BMW Drives Into Cannes With New 7 Series European Debut

BMW returns to the glittering French Riviera as the Cannes Film Festival celebrates its 79th edition, bringing with it the European debut of the all-new BMW 7 Series. The Côte d’Azur once again welcomes international actors, directors, producers, and creatives from around the world, and the festival has long evolved beyond cinema into a showcase for luxury, design, and contemporary lifestyle. For BMW, Cannes provides the perfect stage to unveil its latest innovations and flagship models to a truly global audience.

Ferrying festival-goers between premieres and parties is an exclusive BMW shuttle fleet of more than 150 vehicles. The line-up includes the fully electric BMW i7 and BMW iX, alongside the BMW XM plug-in hybrid, delivering premium transport without any local emissions. This electrified fleet underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainable luxury mobility, even at one of the most high-profile events on the international social calendar.

The headline act, of course, is the comprehensively updated BMW 7 Series. The seventh generation of BMW’s flagship saloon makes its European debut on La Croisette, the busiest boulevard in Cannes, ahead of its worldwide market launch in July 2026. This is the most extensive model update in the history of the BMW Group, with the new 7 Series setting fresh benchmarks in design, digitalisation, comfort, and electrified powertrain technology. A monolithic exterior, the new BMW kidney Iconic Glow, and minimalist BMW Individual crystal headlights give the car a striking presence. A world first comes courtesy of the BMW Individual Dual-Finish paintwork, which seamlessly combines matt and metallic finishes in the same colour with no visible transition between the two. The cabin houses the BMW Panoramic iDrive display, the brand’s first Passenger Screen, an upgraded BMW Theatre Screen, and an immersive lighting concept.

Under the bonnet, the new 7 Series demonstrates BMW’s even-handed approach to powertrains. Buyers can choose from efficient internal combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid options, and fully electric variants offering more than 720 kilometres of WLTP-rated range thanks to the sixth-generation BMW eDrive cylindrical cell technology. The new flagship also brings advanced SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems and BMW Symbiotic Drive, which uses artificial intelligence to optimise the interaction between driver and car for partially automated driving and parking. Adding to the celebration, the BMW 7 Series will be honoured with a dedicated exhibition of star-studded models from films and TV productions such as Stranger Things, Mission: Impossible, and Red Sparrow, including the original E38 BMW 7 Series from the James Bond classic Tomorrow Never Dies.

Beyond the cars, BMW is deepening its cultural commitment by expanding the successful BMW Art Makers programme to include film from 2027, supporting emerging talent across the global industry. The brand also continues backing major events such as the Marrakech International Film Festival, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and the BMW Shorties programme for young filmmakers in Malaysia. A panel discussion at the Plage des Palmes will gather distinguished guests including Cannes Film Festival President Iris Knobloch and Emmy-nominated producer Mehret Mandefro to debate the role of human craftsmanship in an age of technological revolution. With more than fifty years of cultural engagement behind it, BMW’s presence at Cannes 2026 reinforces its position as a brand that drives forward both on the road and in the arts.
