Marco Wittmann (DE) did a great follow up for his fourth place in Saturday’s race with another impressive display during the Sunday race at the Lausitzring (DE). He was able to finish sixth with the Red Bull BMW M4 DTM in race two. He gained eight points for this position and this only means that this third race weekend of the season brings him to second place in the DTM Drivers’ Championship. Now with 55 points under his belt, he comes next to Robert Wickens (CA, Mercedes) by just three points. Sunday’s race was won by Lucas Auer (AT, Mercedes).
Aside from Wittmann, two more BMW drivers finished with great points in Lausitzring. Bruno Spengler (CA) was ninth to cross the finish line in the BMW Bank M4 DTM, followed by Timo Glock (DE) in the DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM taking tenth place. BMW was able to successfully defended its lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship. BMW Team RMG continues to lead the Team competition with 93 points.
Tom Blomqvist (GB) almost got points, finishing 11th in the Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM. Maxime Martin (BE, SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM), António Félix da Costa (PT, BMW M4 DTM) and Martin Tomczyk (DE, BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM) were 13th, 14th and 18th in the sixth race of the season. Augusto Farfus (BR, Shell BMW M4 DTM) failed to finish after an unfortunate collision.
Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director) thinks that they put on a fantastic show this weekend at the Motorsport Festival. They are now focusing their attention to the next race at the Norisring.
