Nurburging Debut BMW M6 GT3

The flags have been waived at beginning of the 2016 endurance racing season at Nurburgring Nordschleife (DE). Completing the first race in Green Hell is the BMW M6 GT3. This is the perfect opportunity for the ROWE Racing, Schubert Motorsport and Walkenhorst Motorsport teams to test the vehicles on track as they eye for wins for this May’s 24-hour race.

Representing ROWE Racing was Klaus Graf (DE), Markus Palttala (FI) and Richard Westbrook (GB) driving the the number 22 BMW M6 GT3. Philipp Eng (AT), Maxime Martin (BE) and Dirk Werner (DE) drove the second car for the team. Thay had a very good start to the race but the team decided to fine tune the vehicle for the remaining laps of the race. They were not able to make it to the top 10. It was also a difficult time for the number 23 car as it experienced technical glitches after some repairs were made.

Racing for Schubert Motorsport is Augusto Farfus (BR), Jesse Krohn (FI) and Jörg Müller (DE) driving the number 31 BMW M6 GT3. The number 32 car was driven by John Edwards (US), Jens Klingmann (DE) and Lucas Luhr (DE). The focus for the team in the race was to test for any possible weaknesses of the car. The former did not make it to the top 10 and the latter had to retire after being in an accident during the race’s last lap.

Performing the best was Walkenhorst Motorsport number 35 BMW M6 GT3 car driven by Mattias Henkola (FI) and Michele Di Martino (DE). They claimed seventh place. The team’s other car, number 36 driven by Victor Bouveng (SE) and Christian Krognes (NO), had to retire after being involved in an accident.

Making his debut on Nurburgring is BMW DTM driver Tom Blomqvist (GB). The circuit was very challenging and he focused on making sure that he takes control of this unfamiliar territory. He will be competing here in the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 for this May’s 24-hour race. He was able to take third place and the top podiums went to Bonk Motorsport team’s Michael Schrey (DE) and Alexander Mies (DE).
