The new 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Facelift comes to market this year with a revised air intake at the front, a slightly redesigned rear bumper, new trim options, and a specially tweaked version of the Proactive Driving Assistant which allows for the interplay between the combustion engine and electric motor to the route ahead.

The hybrid is powered by a 3.0 liter TwinPower turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine delivering 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque with an additional 55 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque coming from the electric drive system which is enough to drive up to 37 miles per hour on electric power alone. The conventional engine is matted to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. A lithium-ion battery with 96 cells provides electricity to the electric motor, and it has a capacity of 675 watt hours. 0 to 60 mph is achieved in 5.7 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 23 mph city and 30 mph highway. An ECO PRO mode is available as part of the Driving Dynamics Control system which allows for the combustion engine to be switched off and fully decoupled at up to 100 mph.
