BMW and MINI are leading the charge in enhancing in-car entertainment, introducing the BBC Sounds app directly into their vehicles’ app stores. With this integration, over 50,000 drivers in the UK can now stream their favourite BBC podcasts, radio shows, and music without relying on a smartphone. This milestone marks BMW and MINI as the first automotive brands to offer this convenience.

The integration is available for selected BMW and MINI models equipped with Operating System 9 and paired with a subscription to BMW Digital Premium or MINI Connected Package, which provides unlimited data connectivity. Users can install the BBC Sounds app directly within their vehicle’s interface, eliminating the need for Android Auto™ or Apple CarPlay® to access content.

Once installed, the app delivers a seamless and personalised experience. By logging in with their BBC account, drivers and passengers can synchronise playback across devices. This feature ensures listeners can start a podcast at home and pick up where they left off in the car. The app is fully embedded in the vehicle’s system, accessible via the All Apps menu in BMWs or the Media Selection screen in MINIs, offering effortless navigation and use.
As an added convenience, the integration includes data usage for streaming content within the BMW Digital Premium or MINI Connected Package. This innovation is expected to expand its reach to around 150,000 vehicles by the end of 2025, cementing BMW and MINI’s position at the forefront of in-car entertainment.
Andrew Furse, BMW Product Operations Manager, emphasised the value of this development, stating that it reinforces their commitment to a seamless and engaging driving experience. With the BBC Sounds app now part of their vehicles, BMW and MINI drivers can enjoy world-class content like never before, making every journey more entertaining.
