i5 M60: BMW’s New Electric M Performance Sedan

BMW challenges the status quo with the i5 M60, an all-electric rival to the M550i, unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. It sports a striking Pure Frozen Grey finish, dual motors, and Shadowline headlights. It hints at the upcoming M5 with a distinctive take on the iconic kidney grille, carbon fibre side mirror caps, and trunk lid spoiler.

Wheel options include 20-inch or 21-inch variants, with the latter slightly impacting range. In the U.S., the i5 M60 with 20-inch wheels offers a 248-mile range, and the 21-inch wheels cost an extra $1,800.

Unfortunately, the i5 M60 Touring won’t be available in the U.S. However, the M5 Touring will soon compete with the Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate and Audi RS6 Avant in North America.

As electric trends continue, BMW may expand its M Performance electric lineup, possibly introducing an inline-six plug-in hybrid variant. The V8-powered M550i won’t return to the EU due to stricter emissions regulations, marking the industry’s shift toward cleaner mobility.
