BMW Neue Klasse platform is the corporation’s future as it arrives in 2025. We can expect that models from the 3 Series and above will take after this platform. Bringing with it tons of consumer benefits, BMW Neue Klasse assures profitability for the German carmaker.Â
Aside from consumer benefits like extended range and faster charging, BMW assumes cost-cutting through the new platform. CEO Oliver Zipse projects that NE-based EVs will cut battery-related costs by 30%. He noted that these electric cars will switch to round battery cells instead of the cylindrical round ones. Zipse shared these assumptions at the 102nd Annual General Meeting this week
Batteries are still the most costly part of an electrical vehicle. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the Neue Klasse will target to lower this cost. BMW believes that the new platform will provide large profits like the combustion-engine models. The luxury brand expects the Neue Klasse to bring as much money as the CLAR-based models.Â
Mark your calendar on June 1 as BMW will place the foundation stone for its new factory. NE-based vehicles will be assembled in this new factory at Debrecen, Hungary. BMW seems to start pre-production in July 2024.
Nevertheless, the Munich plant is set to build BMW Neue Klasse models next. This is in line with the announcement that BMW will produce NE-based EVs in 2026. BMW has not given any hint as to what the German factory will build first. But Debrecen will start building the 3 Series segment and release it in 2025. Whether the new upgrade will arrive as a sedan or crossover is still unknown.
In relation, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess confirms BMW’s assumptions on EVs’ profitability. He expects that EVs will profit as high as ICEs sooner than what they expected before. This means in about 2 to 3 years, EVs will continue to raise carmakers’ profitability.
