BMW And India Art Fair Mark Ten Years With Art On The Frontage

BMW Group India is returning as the presenting partner of India Art Fair 2026, celebrating a decade-long relationship with the event at the NSIC Exhibition Grounds in New Delhi from 5 to 8 February 2026. With a record 135 exhibitors on the bill and fresh names joining the roster, the fair is positioning itself as a major meeting point for modern and contemporary work from India and South Asia, with BMW once again anchoring the conversation around culture, design and innovation.

The centrepiece of BMW’s art programme is the 2026 edition of ‘The Future is Born of Art’ Commission, now five years into its run. This year’s theme, ‘Crafting in Continuum’, goes to Afrah Shafiq, whose new work, ‘A Giant Sampler’, takes over the fair’s façade for the first time. It’s an attention-grabbing choice of canvas: not a quiet gallery wall, but the front of the fair itself—where every visitor meets the work before they even step inside.

Shafiq’s installation reframes progress as something layered rather than linear, blending handcrafted references with digital systems and interactive technology. Built around embroidery motifs and textile traditions connected to women’s histories, the piece folds in an augmented reality element that invites visitors to explore shifting stories of memory, movement and change. A cross-stitched BMW wheel sits within the design language as a sharp symbol of precision, motion and cycles—heritage translated into a graphic that still feels mechanical at heart.

Inside the BMW Collectors Lounge, the brand is also showcasing the BMW Concept Speedtop, a concept car presented as a design object as much as a machine. Its low, forward-leaning nose, sculpted profile and Touring-like proportions give it real presence, while the cabin leans into craftsmanship through leatherwork, careful colour splits and detailing that feels closer to coachbuilt thinking than mainstream production. It’s positioned as a collector’s piece—an automotive statement built around form, finish and theatre.

Taken together, BMW’s façade commission and its lounge display convey the same message: the company wants to be seen as more than a badge on a bonnet. At India Art Fair 2026, it’s using art and design to talk about craft, technology and future mobility in a way that feels tangible—right down to the materials, the detailing and the way the work meets the public.
