BMW x SipaBoards Brings Electric Drive To SUP Adventures

The BMW x SipaBoards e-SUP brings the brand’s electric know-how onto the water, pairing an integrated motor with a sleek, self-inflating board so you glide like an EV and set off in minutes. Press a button and the unit inflates the board before your paddle even touches the surface; once afloat, the fuel-free drivetrain adds up to 300 watts of thrust for easy progress into headwinds or currents, with near-silent running and a top speed of around 7.5km/h. Power comes from modular battery packs that swap in seconds, so your session is shaped by your plans rather than the shoreline.

Built around an X-woven drop-stitch core, the BMW x SipaBoards feels rigid and planted, with stability that flatters newcomers and rewards confident strokes from experienced riders. The carbon-fibre paddle carries a Bluetooth controller inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse aesthetic, letting you dial in assistance and trigger FREUDE Mode for an extra hit of shove, haptic feedback and light effects. A companion app adds neat touches such as route planning, battery monitoring and GPS tracking, while a safety cut-off stops the motor automatically if the paddle hits the water unexpectedly, keeping the board under control in awkward moments.

Dimensions read 3.65m long, 0.82m wide and 0.15m thick, and the board is designed for two people, mixing robustness with a manageable weight for transport. Materials are chosen for durability and low noise, reinforcing the clean, zero-emission character of the water. Under-board LED ambient lighting helps with dusk launches and adds a premium sheen to late-evening sessions, while the cohesive design language—shaped by BMW Group Designworks—extends across the deck, paddle and accessories.

Living with it is made easier by a clever click-and-connect mounting system that accepts cameras, speakers, bottles, dry bags or coolboxes at multiple points. BMW will also bundle a Lifestyle Accessory Capsule with a curated kit, so you can capture footage and look the part as you carve across a lake or hug the coastline. Battery options cover quick dips and longer days alike: the standard 90Wh modules typically span about one to three-and-a-half hours on the water, with 180Wh units due from spring 2026 extending ride time to roughly three to seven hours, depending on conditions and assistance levels.

This isn’t a one-off gadget; it’s BMW applying its electric playbook to a different kind of ride. The BMW x SipaBoards blends clean propulsion, smart connectivity and thoughtful safety into a polished package, delivering that familiar BMW sense of engineered control—just swapped from tarmac to tide.
