The proportions point to a low bonnet, long dash-to-axle and a saloon boot rather than a five-door liftback, while production-style door mirrors contrast with lighting elements that look more show car than showroom. It is a curious mix: some details echo recent prototypes, others feel like design-studio placeholders used to demonstrate driver-assistance features for the new iX3 page.
Closer study nudges the needle towards BMW’s forthcoming design language. The wide, horizontally emphasised kidney graphic hints at a cleaner aero focus than the current i4, and the wafer-thin tail-lamps suggest tighter surfacing at the rear. Contrast that with the windscreen base pushed far forward, a trait seen on concept work for Neue Klasse rather than today’s hard points. It could be an old proposal, a digital mash-up for animation, or simply an internal styling buck pressed into CGI duty.
If it is the next BMW i4, the stance tells a promising story. A planted nose, short overhangs and visibly rear-biased proportions suggest space for a serious front suspension package and a tidy steering rack, with the scuttle position aiding visibility and aero management. Expect a flat underfloor, carefully managed wake around the C-pillars and a boot opening shaped for both airflow and everyday practicality—more true saloon than hatch, if the render is to be believed.
Equally, it may be nothing more than a stand-in model while the real car stays under wraps. BMW has form for using non-production CG assets in tech demos, and the headlamp signatures shown here would struggle to meet regulatory requirements in this exact form. For now, the safest verdict is that the mystery four-door nods to where the BMW i4 is heading: cleaner graphics, crisper aero and saloon purity aligned with Neue Klasse principles—just don’t file it under ‘confirmed’ until the camouflage comes off.
