The 2026 BMW iX3 will be the first model to debut the brand’s Neue Klasse platform, ushering in a new era of electric vehicles for BMW. Unlike the previous iX3 sold overseas, this next-generation SUV will be available globally and promises a blend of athletic design, cutting-edge technology and long-distance capability, with up to 400 miles of range.

The Neue Klasse is more than just a new platform — it represents a shift in how BMW approaches electric mobility, design and driving dynamics. Early concepts previewed taut proportions and sleek styling, and prototype drives of the iX3 suggest it delivers agility to match its looks. Central to the experience is BMW’s new digital architecture, referred to as the “Heart of Joy,” which integrates advanced computing systems to manage everything from performance to infotainment.

Power comes from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system expected to produce around 400 horsepower, giving the iX3 the ability to sprint to 60 mph in under five seconds. Its 800-volt electrical system enables ultra-rapid charging, with BMW claiming that up to 200 miles of range can be added in just ten minutes on the right charger. A stretched wheelbase over the current X3 ensures a more spacious cabin, reinforcing its role as a premium family SUV.
Positioned against rivals like the Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Macan Electric and Genesis Electrified GV70, the iX3 enters a highly competitive segment. While America’s charging infrastructure may limit the full benefit of its ultra-fast charging capabilities, the iX3’s combination of range, performance and luxury should make it a compelling choice.
Set for its public reveal at the Munich IAA Mobility show, the iX3 signals BMW’s commitment to redefining the electric SUV. With performance pedigree, practicality and a forward-looking design, it could well be one of the most important models in BMW’s modern history.
