[Video] Race to the top: BMW M5 Competition vs new E63 S AMG

If you’re looking for a high-performance sedan, two major choices stand out in the segment. Should you get the BMW M5 Competition or the Mercedes-AMG E63 S? It remains a tough question over the years. The two big German automakers even exchanged blows in this segment for quite some time. However, considering the 2021 models today, which model should we stake our money on?

Well, if you’re thinking about it, too, you came right in time! Mat Watson from CarWow tries to find out and provide some valuable insights into both of them. He begins by comparing the design of the two, which is the most subjective topic you can talk about, at least on Youtube. Can’t shake off everyone’s personal preference when it comes to design, right? And Mat’s is the Mercedes-Benz, when it comes to the front and rear end. While the side profile of the M5 looks seemingly better to Mat overall.

On the inside, it’s still a very subjective experience, which highly depends on your personal preference. But, you can’t simply ignore the material quality and fit and finish inside. Both cars are highly user-friendly and ergonomic. The seats are just armchairs transplanted into road cars. In the instrument cluster area, it seems like the Mercedes has the upper hand, customized to greater lengths than the BMW.

Performance – the most anticipated part of all and the main reason for our comparison. We’ve seen plenty of races between these two models when it comes to it, and we know they are pretty close. But in Mat’s test, the M5 came out strong on top. The E63 S did the 1/4 mile in 11.23 seconds, with the 0-60 mph time being 3.09, while the BMW did the 1/4 mile in 10.91 seconds and the benchmark sprint in 2.92 seconds. It’s not that of a great difference, but it comes down to the M5 being faster. Want to find out Mat’s choice in the end? Click the play button now.
