The Auto Express from the UK reports that we will soon get a new version of the MINI Countryman – a 5-door Coupe. Apparently, it will come in the place currently held by the Paceman.
It’s still unclear where the new model will exactly sit in the lineup. What’s clear is that there is the need for a MINI car that belongs to the SUV segment. We’re still not sure how it would be different from the Countryman, but the manufacturer will apparently think of something to offer.
The Auto Express shared Adrian van Hooydonk’s opinion:
Part of the issue was the three doors. We have looked into a lot of things, but all of our [BMW] SUV coupes are five-door vehicles. As much as people probably drive the cars with only one or two people, they like the comfort of an extra set of doors. They want to carry extra stuff – throw a bag in the rear or take someone.
The production of the imagined model will definitely be pretty expensive, and we’re curious to see how this project will develop.
