[Video] Tuned BMW X4 M40i against Porsche Macan Turbo

Looking at the features of the BMW X4 M40i and the Porsche Macan Turbo these days, you’d believe these people aren’t the best rivals, and you’d be correct. The power gap between them is very high, and the Porsche will only walk in a straight line. However, the drag race that we have for you here today is a little special as it comes with a twist. In this test, the Porsche Macan Turbo is an earlier version and not a newer, more efficient variant.

Porsche released a Macan version this year, and the Turbo version received the biggest updates in the entire series. That’s because the old 3.6-liter V6 was eventually removed, and a new 2.9-liter twin-turbo unit was mounted under the hood. This latest engine is the same twin-turbo V6 as the Audi RS5, so it’s more efficient than the outgoing unit. Since the vehicle in this clip is the outgoing 2018 edition, it has the older 3.6-liter engine.

The specific car has 440hp and 600Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque to rely on. All that power goes to the car’s four wheels through a seven-speed PDK, and the car also has the Sport Chrono package, which gives the car boost on acceleration. On the opposite, we have a 2018 BMW X4 M40i.

This means it is fitted with a B58 engine that can deliver 360 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) torque to the track. The BMW is an all-wheel-drive too. After all, the BMW has a trick up its sleeve. It can help make up for 80 HP by using a tune-up. The car now produces 415 horsepower. That should be enough to fit Macan Turbo on the drag strip. Just one way to find out.
