[Video] BMW i4’s Prototype in a Test Drive

Last month, the BMWblog team was able to test drive the pre-production BMW i4 in Los Angeles. In this video, we will see a general overview of this prototype courtesy of BMW Testing and Engineering division’s Dr. Robert Liebing, who disclosed some of the classified information behind the BMW i4 electric car.

The video concludes with some driving footage of the BMW i4 covered in camo as the BMWBlog team chases a BMW M2 Competition around Malibu’s curvy roads. The test vehicle was the top-of-the-line BMW i4 M50, which has two electric motors on each axle and produces 536 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque. That means the most powerful 4 Series is both electric and tuned by the M division.

Increasing the system’s drive power, the i4 M50 also gets a SPORT Boost function. This function adds up to 67 horsepower to its maximum of 536hp for over ten seconds. Aside from that, the combined torque also enhanced from 48 lb-ft to 586 lb-ft. Its weight distribution is 48-52. BMW claims that the engine can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 140 miles per hour.
