Farewell to the BMW X4

BMW’s lineup is getting less crowded as the BMW X4 is set to be discontinued. The introduction of the larger second-generation X2 has made the X4 redundant. Company officials have confirmed that the X4 will not see another generation, as the X2’s increased size and the narrowing price gap between the two models have rendered the X4 unnecessary.

For those desiring a larger coupe-styled SUV, BMW suggests the X6. Meanwhile, the new X3, with its rear-wheel-drive and six-cylinder engine options, aims to fill any void left by the X4’s departure. The X3 continues to be BMW’s best-seller, combining practicality with performance, ensuring that it meets the needs of those who might miss the X4.

BMW hasn’t specified the exact end date for X4 production, but with the updated X3 arriving later this year, the X4 will likely be phased out by 2025. The news might come as a disappointment to some SUV enthusiasts, but BMW remains confident that its current and upcoming models will effectively fill the niche.

Despite the end of the X4, there’s potential for an indirect successor with a fully electric iX4, expected to launch around 2027 on the Neue Klasse platform. This model will join other upcoming EVs like the iX3 and i3 sedan. The shift towards electric vehicles shows BMW’s commitment to a sustainable future while continuing to offer innovative and desirable options in their lineup.

As we bid farewell to the X4, it’s clear that BMW is strategically refining its offerings to adapt to market demands and technological advancements, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the automotive industry.
