The fourth-generation BMW 1 Series has started production at BMW Group Plant Leipzig. The first model, a BMW 120 in Alpine White, is set for a customer in Germany. This new compact model is expected to hit the market in October 2024, highlighting BMW’s continued commitment to innovation and quality. Plant Leipzig, which produces up to 1,300 vehicles daily, including the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and MINI Countryman, has been significantly upgraded to handle increased production.
The BMW 1 Series has been a staple in the compact segment since 2007, with over 1.3 million units produced at Plant Leipzig. Nearly 443,000 third-generation models have been delivered as of June 2024. The latest version promises to maintain high production levels at the plant, ensuring job security and creating new employment opportunities. By the end of 2024, the plant will employ around 7,000 people thanks to its expanded capacity to produce 350,000 units annually.
This new model features a dynamic design with a striking front end, enhanced chassis technology, and a revised drive portfolio. The car’s exterior boasts a wide radiator grille and standard LED headlights, while the rear includes a pronounced apron with vertical reflectors. Inside is a leather-free interior with a redesigned cockpit and a BMW Curved Display. An optional M Sport Package offers even sportier aesthetics.
A standout feature of the new 1 Series is its optional high-gloss black contrast roof, a first for this model. This innovative painting process is resource-efficient and reduces waste. The new BMW 1 Series is available in multiple finishes, including BMW Individual paintwork, and will be available in strong markets such as Germany, Europe, the UK, and Italy.
