BMW iX Tops 2025 Large Premium SUV Class After Bold Upgrades

BMW iX enters 2025 with refreshed hardware that propels the marque’s flagship electric SUV straight to the front of the premium pack. From the first press of the start button, the dual-motor drivetrain impresses with seamless torque delivery and whisper-quiet refinement, qualities that helped the iX outscore stalwarts such as the Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport in this year’s awards.

Engineers have concentrated on efficiency and stamina. Revised power electronics, low-resistance bearings and improved cell chemistry trim consumption, while buyers can now choose between 94.8 kWh and 109.1 kWh battery packs. In mixed British conditions, the new xDrive45 comfortably manages more than 370 miles, and the xDrive60 extends that figure well past 400 without demanding a feather-light right foot. Even with the larger battery, charging times remain competitive thanks to a robust 195 kW peak DC rate.

On the road, the iX belies its size. Air suspension and adaptive dampers smother broken asphalt yet rein in body roll when the pace rises, giving the SUV the composure of a much smaller car. The M70 variant adds a surge of additional power plus model-specific chassis tuning, delivering rapid cross-country progress while retaining the calm ride that defines the range.

Step inside, and the cabin still feels like a concept car driven straight off the motor show stand. A curved dual-screen array blends crisp graphics with BMW’s iDrive rotary controller, while responsibly sourced materials lend a contemporary, lounge-like ambience. Vast glass areas flood the interior with light, occupants stretch out in genuine comfort and luggage space easily absorbs family holiday clobber.

By pairing long-distance battery stamina with limousine-grade refinement and agile handling, the updated BMW iX secures its position as the benchmark large premium SUV. Few rivals combine such breadth of ability, and even fewer deliver it with this level of polish.
