The third generation 3 Series BMW E46 316/318i also known as the “Compact” garnered huge support in Germany. It has proved what it is capable of at the American Le Mans Series and the WTCC. But when it is not on the track, it is also a symbol of quality, luxury, and performance.
The Compact was not sold in America due to the similarity with the E36 318ti, which led to people taking this car as unique. It then automatically catered to a selective market and an automatic hit in its home continent.
But unlike the E36, the Compact has more interesting features and offbeat styling. It has a special BMW exterior design specifically different from other E46 variants. It has two pairs of round headlamps and a lower spoiler. If you look at the car from the side, the door lines might come across as a coupe/sedan like. It is however, on the rear end that the car really becomes a unique beauty in its own right.
To pay homage to the E46 Compact, a European digital film group named Format67 came up with this short film based on a true to life story focused around the 318Ti. It is a very nice tribute indeed to the car most people consider as the Bavarian underdog.
