[VIDEO] 2022 BMW M240i going all out on Autobahn Test - BMW.SG

[VIDEO] 2022 BMW M240i going all out on Autobahn Test

The BMW M240i acts as a temporary range-topper until the M2 Coupé is launched later this year. It is one of the remaining small cars with an inline six cylinder without electrification, although it is not a full-fledged M car. BMW underestimates the performance of its cars, and this new video proves it, as the M Performance version is faster than claimed.

The footage taken by AutoTopNL on an unrestricted part of the Autobahn provides us a close look at some heavy accelerations. The driver accelerated the M240i to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.07 seconds using a smartphone app based on GPS. As a reminder, BMW officially quotes the European version of the sports coupe as having a sprint time of 4.3 seconds.

When it comes to the fact that BMW made the M240i for the European market, it is worth noting that it has less power than the US model. The all-wheel drive Bavarian small car in the colour Thundernight Metallic has only 369 hp. Its American counterpart has 13 hp more, which is probably because the Euro model has to comply with stricter exhaust emission limits. These have a terrible effect on the engine’s soundtrack, but that’s a topic for another time.

By using Launch Control, it achieved an impressive acceleration time. The M240i completed the sprint from 100-200 km/h (62-124 mph) in 10.06 seconds. The digital speedometer showed 157 mph (253 km/h), although the actual speed was 150 mph (241 km/h).

BMW will offer a rear-wheel drive model later this year, but there are no plans for a manual gearbox. It will probably be a bit slower, but it will cost less than the xDrive model.
