Future BMW M2 and BMW X3M Rumor

These renderings show a rumored BMW M2. AutoExpress, a UK publication, reports that a possible BMW M2 may be in the works. The information has been based on their interview with the new M boss, Dr. Nitschke.

Nitschke told AutoExpress: “In the 1M Coupe, we have a starter car for the M Division, and we are continuing to develop this project. Such models must be sporty, and offer extraordinarily low fuel consumption. This is something we could achieve with the M2. I think the 1M Coupe proves there is room for an M2, a coupe.”

Rumor has it that the new M2 will be based on the F21 platform similar to what the upcoming 2 Series Coupe and Convertible models will use. The M2 will be a rear-wheel drive and is expected to be unveiled in 2015. This vehicle’s front and rear end will be designed to immediately differentiate from other M models.

The BMW M2 is rumored to be powered by a 3.0 liter six-cylinder turbo engine delivering 350 horsepower, or a new tri-turbo powerplant that offers better fuel economy with the same performance, matted to a new DCT semi-automatic transmission. AutoExpress also reports that this engine will make its debut in a new BMW X3M this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
