Ward’s 10 Best Engines of 2010 list includes the popular favorite: BMW 335d. Thanks to Bosch’s clean diesel engine technology on this powertrain, it has easily become a favorite for automotive enthusiasts. Bosch’s partnership with BMW has made this engine possible.
Bosch also specializes in fuel efficient yet performing clean diesel engines such as BMW’s 3.0-liter DOHC I-6 Turbo diesel on the BMW 335d. This engine provides 30% better fuel efficiency, reduces carbon emissions by 25%, increases torque by 50%, offers high resale value, can be bought in a lower ownership cost, and there are also tax incentives for consumers in selected countries. In the US, tax credits range from US$900 to US$1,800. With all these benefits, it clearly beats other gasoline competitions.
The BMW 335d has additional features than the Bosch’s diesel common rail system. It also has a Denoxtronic with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. Both systems are responsible for the overall injection and emission control system to aid in removing NOx emissions and increasing efficiency. The BMW 335d achieves very promising fuel economy at 23 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. The good part it, the BMW 335d maintains the dynamics and sportiness of a true BMW, thanks to the increased torque.
