This year will be marked by BMW’s 100th anniversary, which is a huge accomplishment for the Bavarian company. However, there is another big milestone happening in 2016 – and it’s the 50th birthday of the legendary BMW 02 series.
BMW 1600 was first unveiled in 1966, when the company offered a sporty driving experience to the world. The model combined the proven chassis technology and a compact two-door body in order to give the drivers safe experience of driving a powerful car.
After the car was well accepted by the customers, BMW engineers continued upgrading it, so it grew from the initial 85 HP to 170 HP for the BMW 2002 turbo model.
02 series is still the most successful BMW ever made, a true best-seller from the German company. Millions of units from this series were sold in the years to come, and the amazing 3 series owns its success to it.
