BMW has at last confirmed the long-rumoured M2 CS by releasing footage of a lightly camouflaged test car pounding the Nürburgring. The short clip reveals red M-mode buttons on the steering wheel, a prominent centre?line marker and reshaped bumpers, signalling that the hottest G87-series variant is nearly ready to step into the spotlight later this year.
Under the bonnet, the familiar 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six is being pushed to an estimated 525 hp, enough to cut the sprint to 62 mph to around 3.8 seconds and continue towards 188 mph. Power will reach the rear axle through an eight-speed automatic, and the exhaust note hinted at in the teaser suggests a freer-flowing quad-stacked system that should add the right measure of menace.
Chassis revisions include stiffer springs, recalibrated adaptive dampers and a ride-height drop of roughly eight millimetres, while selective carbon-fibre panels trim a further 30 kg from an already compact package. Carbon roof, bucket seats and a CSL-style boot-lid spoiler all appear ready for production, and bronze or black forged wheels will fill the subtly widened arches.
Rumour places the production run at about two thousand cars, each rear-drive only, with bucket seating and full leather interiors in either black or a striking red-over-black split. A new shade of metallic violet is tipped to headline the palette, joining the staple blues and greys of the regular M2.
The prototype is expected to break cover at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, where BMW traditionally unveils its most focused creations. With a separate xDrive M2 waiting in the wings, the 2026 BMW M2 CS looks set to become the purest, most potent two-door in the current M catalogue—and proof that the compact coupé still has room to grow sharper fangs.
