[Video] 2021 BMW G82 M4 Competition: How fast can it be?

The 2021 BMW G82 M4 Competition has almost had its time to show up online. We’re a few days ahead of the first reviews. Currently, we are prohibited to discuss our opinions on them due to an embargo. Meanwhile, more content is beginning to appear online. One of these is the video below, which shows the G82 M4 Competition going all out in a straight line.

When it comes to straight-line performance, the 2021 M3 and M4 models will be in a completely different category, as you expected. Compared to all the previous cars with those badges on their boot lids, these two stand out. This is because the G80 M3 and G82 M4 Competition models now have all-wheel drives, which will have a significant impact. In the past, the M3 and M4 versions couldn’t catch pace with their main competitor from Audi and Mercedes-AMG in a standing drag race because they couldn’t bring enough power down. That will not be the case any longer.

The distinction between ‘normal’ models and Competition variants would be even more pronounced with the new generation. The latter will now be fast off the line because it has an all-wheel-drive and automatic eight-speed transmission. It also matches the S58 engine’s higher performance. BMW claims the M4 Competition will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. This may be the first time someone checked it independently.

Acknowledgments to the guys from Motorsport Magazine in France. We can now do some timings just as seen in the video. It shows how the car acts in a straight line from a dig. Some car enthusiasts have its calculation. They said the 2021 BMW G82 M4 Competition in the video made the 0-100 km/h sprint in around four seconds flat.  It’s interesting to note that the Launch Control sequence started in second gear. It will be interesting to understand why.
