Here is a statement from the jury: “The interior of the BMW 5 Series Sedan impresses with technical equipment which is designed for an intensive driver experience, while the overall impression is that of a sporty and elegant business sedan. Dynamic proportions, precise contours and taut surfaces characterize the purist, athletic appearance of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. The crease line surrounds the rear window graphic in an energetic motion and thus emphasizes the powerful look. The interior is equipped with modern technology and combines a driver-friendly design with high-quality ambiance.”

BMW has actually won a lot of Red Dot awards in its history. In 2011, BMW won three at the same time with its BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW 6 Series Convertible and BMW X3.
