The BMW 5 Series Touring is heading for a dramatic overhaul. Fresh spy shots have caught the facelifted estate deep in its final testing. The car wears its all-electric i5 Touring skin in these images. A full reveal is lined up for early 2027, with sales to follow soon after. This is the sort of update that reshapes a whole range.

The changes run far deeper than a routine mid-life refresh. BMW plans to pull the estate into line with its Neue Klasse family. The saloon and the M5 have already been spotted testing. This is our first proper look at the load-lugger of the range. It suggests the whole family will move as one.
The nose leads the makeover. Slim new headlights flank a pair of wider illuminated grilles. Together they hand the car a sharp shark-nose stance. A heavily reworked lower bumper finishes the front. New rear lights, a fresh bumper and new wheel designs round off the rest of the body.

The cabin gains the biggest single leap. BMW’s Panoramic iDrive brings a full-width head-up display along the base of the windscreen. A large, quick-reacting central touchscreen sits alongside it. Its layout aims to lift cabin quality after mixed feedback on the current car. The estate may also borrow tricks from the new iX5.
The electric i5 stands to gain the most beneath the skin. Denser battery cells should stretch its range and close the gap to Audi and Mercedes. That has long been the model’s weak spot against key rivals. The broad spread of powertrains stays, though UK buyers will lean on electric and plug-in hybrid. No diesel is expected this time.
