Last month, BMW showcased the 2024 5 Series to the world. But what about its toned-down versions? Just days after revealing the 520i, BMW unveils the 530e in a fresh walkaround video. This plug-in hybrid model, dressed in Sophisto Grey Metallic and sporting 19-inch wheels, doesn’t include the M Sport Package or M Sport Package Pro.
Just like earlier 5 Series electrified models, the charging port is on the front fender, driver’s side. The G60-gen model sports a fresh design and is notably larger than its predecessor. But that’s where the parallels stop. We find the front grille of the 5er, in these more budget-friendly setups, seems more imposing than the unique kidneys of the i5 M60 with their mere two horizontal bars.
Inside this 530e, you’ll find a leather-free, Veganza upholstered interior. The seats come in Smoke White, quilted and perforated, marking the first fully vegan interior in a BMW 5 Series. The video prominently showcases iDrive 8.5, and it’s no surprise. This new feature has significantly transformed the interior, whether you love it or not.
The 530e will hit the market in spring 2024 alongside the 550e xDrive. This smaller PHEV combines an electric motor and a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine. Together, they deliver 299 horsepower and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). This power comes from pairing the ICE’s 190 horsepower and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) with the electric motor’s 184 horsepower and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft). Also, a new 19.4 kWh battery pack promises an electric range of up to 62 miles (100 kilometres) per WLTP standards.
This rear-wheel-drive, electric hybrid can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 6.4 seconds. It boasts a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h). When running solely on electric power, the BMW 530e can reach a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h).
