BMW’s revamped X3 is no threat to the Q5 according to Audi

The premium compact Sports Utility Vehicle segment is starting to show some fierce competition. The Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLK dominated the segment in 2009. BMW’s X3 was approaching the end of its lifecycle back then and the refresh was still on the way. But the game is just about to change. With just a few weeks before the new BMW X3 hits the showrooms, Audi says that the new BMW X3 will not be a threat to their top selling Q5.

In an interview for Automotive News, Johan de Nysschen, president of Audi of America said: “I don’t expect to see any downturn in Q5 volume. In fact, we will sell more Q5s next year than we did this year. The car is hot.” He also affirms that Audi currently has a 12-day supply of the Q5, and that they could sell more if they produced more. “It’s likely we’ll see the segment really grow to naturally accommodate whatever plans our BMW colleagues have,” de Nysschen said.

It is still too early to say that the BMW X3 is not a competition until the test drives are not yet happening.
